"Pink Matter (feat. André 3000)," Frank Ocean
Since you been gone
I been having withdrawals
You were such a habit to call
I ain’t myself at all had to tell myself naw
She’s better with some fella with a regular job
I didn’t wanna get her involved
That verse though. Perfection.
"Hurricane," Bob Dylan
That’s the story of the Hurricane
But it won’t be over till they clear his name
And give him back the time he’s done
Put him in a prison cell but one time he could-a been
The champion of the world.
Rest in Peace Hurricane Carter. A true champion, who comported himself with dignity in the face of a hateful, racist 20 year prison sentence. Keep fighting.
“A Tooth For An Eye” deconstructs images of maleness, power and leadership. Who are the people we trust as our leaders and why? What do we have to learn from those we consider inferior? In a sport setting where one would traditionally consider a group of men as powerful and in charge, an unexpected leader emerges. A child enters and allows the men to let go of their hierarchies, machismo and fear of intimacy, as they follow her into a dance. Their lack of expertise and vulnerability shines through as they perform the choreography. Amateurs and skilled dancers alike express joy and a sense of freedom; There is no prestige in their performance. The child is powerful, tough and sweet all at once, roaring “I’m telling you stories, trust me”. There is no shame in her girliness, rather she possesses knowledge that the men lost a long time ago.
James Baldwin, “Everybody’s Protest Novel”
JB talking about protest novels, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and I like to pretend, Macklemore.
This has definitely been my experience. You know what a week from Sunday is?
"East Coast Girl," Cayucas
The story of an East Coast girl
Warm in her winter clothes waiting for the sun to finally go down
Oh she’s wondering what happened to that California sunshine she used to know
She used to know
In case anyone was wondering, Mac DeMarco’s new album is fucking amazing.
Future Islands, “Seasons (Waiting On You),” Live on David Letterman
This performance is unbelievable. I can’t stop watching it.
Kanye taking a picture with an iPad is a blank canvas. Perfection.
